Aberfan is a former mining village just like countless others across the south Wales coalfield area. It is in the county of Merthyr Tydfil, and has towns such as Mountain Ash in Rhondda Cynon Taf on one side. On the other is Caerphilly county, which includes Rhymney and other former mining areas.
