Fires rage in France and Spain as weather forecast offers little respite

Three fires have merged near the Spanish capital of Madrid; the interior ministry says just under 60,000 have been evacuated, with another 28,000 told to stay in their homes. One person died after a separate fire near Valencia, according to local firefighters.
