What is a solar eclipse? Phenomenon explained

A solar eclipse is simply when the Moon passes in between the Earth and the Sun, blocking some or all of the Sun's rays from hitting Earth. But not all eclipses are the same. When the Moon blocks out all of the Sun's rays, this is known as a total eclipse. These cause the day to darken and leave the halo of the Sun's upper atmosphere peaking around the moon the only thing lighting up the sky. That's what happened in the UK in 1999. This time around the UK won't see a total eclipse, but some area
